So I want to switch the the triple clamps from my RM 125 to my RM-Z 450. The clamps will fit, except the steering stalk from the 125 is too short and so I need to remove the steering stem and install the i from the 450.

Y'all put it in a press and button information technology out through the bearing. Don't effort and beat it out as you will ruin it. Seen it done to many times. Any automotive store or bike store can do it in like x min.

Or just go to your local auto mechanic... Said he'd charge me $10 bucks, didn't charge anything to remove or put back. Besides easy and really, how many times is the tool gonna become used? Not often yous remove the steering stem!

Cheers, Crush

Yes it'southward the aforementioned process, yous're just pressing on rather than off. I've pressed on and off different bushings, bearings and gears before but never a steering stalk so I don't have any tips but it sounds similar your friend has the tool you need.

Just make sure and put the nut on the stem a thread below the edge. That way when you become done you tin can back information technology off and it will clean upwardly the threads on the finish if they get bunged upward.

Pressing the stem off/on the clench is the easy office. Pressing the lower bearing back onto the stem is a fiddling tricky. They make a special tool with correctly sized bearing adapters to do information technology easily but I've seen people utilize everything from a long piece of pipe or PVC to reach down over the stem and press the bearing. Besides seen a few guys gouge the crap out of their stem or booger up the bearing using some home made methods.

What home methods do y'all guys have that have worked well?
